Stylish Sichuan cuisine
VERIFIED LUXURY

Channeling the glamour of 1940s Chengdu, Five Foot Road delivers elegant, multi-sensory dining that will expand your understanding of Sichuan cuisine.

Located within MGM COTAI, the restaurant emphasizes culture and context, with countless historical references across the interior design, artwork and recipes. Even the name, Five Foot Road, nods to the width of merchant carts that once traversed the Silk Road.

Leading the kitchen is Yang Dengquan, a Chengdu-born chef with more than 35 years of experience. Chef Yang’s menu features a range of modern, classic and forgotten dishes that showcase the cuisine’s delicate techniques and delicious aroma.

The Food

  • When thinking about Sichuan food, characteristics like “fiery” and “hot” often come to mind. But Yang strives to explore the cuisine’s more nuanced craftsmanship, using subtleties to showcase the delicacies of the 24 flavors quintessentially represented in Sichuan cuisine, such as stewed minced chicken bouillon.
  • One of the Cotai restaurant’s most delicate dishes, poached Chinese cabbage, hails from the Qing Dynasty. Known for its complex chicken broth, the light yet satisfying soup was once a staple at elaborate banquets and upscale dinner parties in Chengdu.
  • As for appetizers, the chilled Sichuan-style abalone is a signature. This dish is a labor of love — it’s been marinated for six hours in Yang's secret housemade chili oil recipe and more than 30 types of Sichuan herbs.
  • Another favorite is Yang’s Sichuan carpaccio, which features crispy mullet instead of traditional beef in a punchy sauce made from sugar, vinegar and chili oil.
  • The hand-pulled dan dan noodles with minced pork is an exceptional example of Yang's interpretation of a classic Sichuan dish. Expect thick, springy noodles in a bath of rich, nutty, spicy sauce and the sweet aroma of Sichuan peppercorns.
